Project date: August 2024 – August 2027

Location: Lilongwe, Dedza, Kasungu, Ntchisi, Dowa, Salima, and Mchingi districts

Investment: 156 million MK

Number of Participants (or farmers): Up to 2000 small scale fish farmers and 20 fingerlings producers (30% women fish farmers).


Project Description:

The ultimate goal of the SAF project is to utilize the potential of sustainable aquatic foods to transform agricultural and food systems in Malawi. To achieve this, Kawjo Foundation project officers are executing the following activities:

  1. Fish farmer training needs assessment in each of the districts.
  2. Technical training of up to 2000 fish farmers on climate smart aquaculture techniques.
  3. Technical training of 20 hatchery operators on fish fingerling production.
  4. Equipping hatchery operators with start-up hatchery materials for fingerling production.
  5. Coaching and follow up loops for the trained fish farmers and fish figerlings producers.
  6. Fish production data collection.
