Emmanuel Kaunda

Chairperson of board of Trustees

Professor Emmanuel Kaunda is a strategic leader and accomplished scientist with over 30 years of experience in fisheries science, focusing on fisheries ecology, fish trade, fisheries policy, and the development of aquaculture in Africa. He is currently the Vice Chancellor of Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) in Malawi.

A recognized expert in his field, Professor Kaunda was named Aquaculturist of the Year by the Aquaculture Association of Southern Africa (AASA) in 2011. He serves as the President of the Pan African Fish and Fisheries Association (PAFFA) and is a Board Member of the Africa Centre for Aquatic Research and Education (ACARE). He has also held prestigious roles such as Past Robbin Welcome Fellow at Michigan State University and has contributed significantly to the development of fisheries policies across the continent.

In addition to his academic and research contributions, Professor Kaunda is a skilled network and partnership builder and an excellent resource mobilizer. He previously served as a Director of Kawjo Foundation and currently holds the position of Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, where he also acts as a strategic advisor. He holds a Ph.D. in Fisheries Science from Rhodes University, South Africa (2001).
