As part of our obligation to climate-smart innovations, Kawjo Foundation is thrilled to share progress from the Green-Profish: Smart Fish Production and Processing for a Green Economy project funded by UNDP Malawi
Implemented at Sanga Beach in Nkhata Bay District, we have successfully constructed 3 energy-efficient fish smoking kilns, designed to use briquettes made from maize, rice and cassava wastes instead of firewood. This innovation aims to lessen pressure on forests, combat environmental degradation, and promote sustainable fish processing practices.

The metal frames for the kilns were locally fabricated, and the structures are now complete — paving the way for safer, cleaner, and more eco-friendly fish smoking methods for local processors.
This is a major step towards building a green economy through inclusive and climate-smart interventions.
